Chattanooga, TN – According to the TDEC officials, residents from across Tennessee are invited to bring hazardous materials such as cleaning fluids, pesticides, and swimming pool chemicals to a designated drop-off site, regardless of their county of residence.
The drop-off location is the Warren County Sanitation Department, located at 1186 Belmont Dr., McMinnville, TN. The collection will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, residents can contact Tracie Myers at (931) 473-6874.
Since its inception in 1993, TDEC’s program has helped more than 373,000 Tennessee households safely dispose of over 24 million pounds of hazardous material through over 1,500 one-day collection events.
These materials, classified as flammable, toxic, reactive, and/or corrosive, should not be placed with regular garbage.
Common items for disposal include mercury thermometers, fluorescent lamps, lithium batteries, adhesives, and used needles in sturdy containers.
Not accepted are items such as ammunition, explosives, alkaline batteries, paint, electronics, and empty containers, which should be disposed of with regular trash. The event is free of charge and no appointment is necessary.
