Chattanooga, TN – A trash compactor fire behind two downtown Chattanooga restaurants led to an evacuation just before 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred near the rear of Mellow Mushroom and Wooden City on Broad Street, prompting a swift response from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived quickly to find smoke from a trash compactor fire affecting the area.

While the blaze was contained and extinguished without injury, Mellow Mushroom was forced to close for the evening due to smoke inside the building.

Wooden City was also evacuated but did not report any closure as of Friday evening.

No injuries were reported, and fire officials credited the prompt evacuation and emergency response for minimizing the incident’s impact.
