Two men dead following fatal shooting on Dodson Avenue as police investigate self-defense claim
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) is actively investigating a reported claim of self-defense following a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday evening on the 2700 block of Dodson Avenue.
According to CPD, officers responded to a call of a person shot at approximately 6:11 p.m. on June 19. Upon arrival, they discovered two men—ages 49 and 50—with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers administered emergency care until Chattanooga Fire Department personnel and Hamilton County EMS arrived on the scene. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Investigators from CPD’s Homicide Unit and the Crime Scene Unit responded to process the scene and begin the inquiry. Preliminary findings suggest that the two deceased individuals had gone to the residence to confront a man who would ultimately become the shooter.
At least one of the men reportedly brandished a firearm during the confrontation. The shooter, who remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers, claimed he fired in self-defense.
CPD has confirmed that it is consulting closely with the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues. Authorities emphasized that the information released thus far is preliminary and subject to change as more details emerge.
Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the Homicide Tip Line at 423-643-5100.
