Tennessee – The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission approved multiple rule changes and policies during a meeting at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Ray Bell Building. Key updates addressed commercial wildlife use, fish farming regulations, and vessel equipment requirements.

The Commission expanded the list of fish species permitted for commercial sale in Tennessee to include striped bass, crappie, and walleye and their hybrids. These fish cannot be harvested from Tennessee waters for resale but may be imported or raised on commercial fish farms. Updates also reflected recent taxonomic changes by the American Fisheries Society, and a new rule prohibits using wild-caught catfish over 34 inches for fish farming or catch-out operations.

Regulatory changes for vessel equipment included amendments to accommodate new labeling for personal flotation devices (PFDs) and fire extinguishers. Existing equipment with prior labeling remains acceptable if in good condition.

The Commission also established a policy for naming wildlife management areas, lakes, boat ramps, and other assets under TWRA jurisdiction. This policy introduces guidelines for honorific and monetary naming, ensuring consistency across TWRA-managed properties.

In other business, Chairman Jimmy Granbery appointed committees to nominate the 2025-26 Commission officers and select the recipient of the annual Legacy Award. These decisions will be presented at the February 20-21 Commission meeting in Nashville.
