Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department is currently investigating a claim of self-defense in a homicide that occurred on April 7, 2025, in the 3000 block of Towerway Drive. The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon and led to the death of a 51-year-old man, while a 44-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 6:21 p.m., CPD officers responded to a report of a person shot. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the 44-year-old man with gunshot wounds, which were later determined to be non-life-threatening.

In addition, the 51-year-old man was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries sustained after being hit by a vehicle.

Chattanooga Fire and Hamilton County EMS quickly responded to the scene, providing medical attention. The 44-year-old man was transported to a local hospital for further care, while the 51-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CPD’s Homicide Unit took over the investigation, and the Crime Scene Unit was called to process the area. Preliminary findings suggest that the 51-year-old man fired shots at the 44-year-old man, who then struck the 51-year-old with a vehicle.

The 44-year-old man is claiming that he acted in self-defense, a claim that the Homicide Unit is currently investigating.

CPD officials are working closely with the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office to assess the details of the incident and determine the appropriate legal response. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have stated that additional information may be provided as the case develops.
