Drivers on I-40 in Putnam County should anticipate lane closures due to upcoming maintenance by the Tennessee Department of Transportation
Chattanooga, TN – According to the TDOT officials, on Wednesday, October 30, and Thursday, October 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time, TDOT crews will perform tree-clearing work on I-40 East, leading to a single lane closure between mile markers 285 and 287.
TDOT advises drivers to use caution in the area and prepare for potential delays. Clear signage will be posted to guide drivers through the work zone.
This maintenance is contingent on favorable weather conditions, with rescheduling planned in the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Drivers are reminded to utilize TDOT’s travel information tools to check real-time traffic updates before heading out.
Additionally, the 2006 Move Over Law remains in effect, requiring drivers to shift lanes safely around roadside workers. Violating the law could result in penalties, including up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.
