Chattanooga Fire Department to host smoke alarm drive in Cherokee Woods on Jan. 19
Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Fire Department will hold a smoke alarm drive on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Fire Station 6, located at 4510 Bonny Oaks Drive. Firefighters will go door-to-door in the Cherokee Woods neighborhood to check and install smoke alarms as needed. Residents can also pick up smoke alarms at Station 6 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Smoke alarms are a critical first line of defense against fires, giving residents early warning and reducing the risk of death in a home fire by 60 percent, according to the National Fire Protection Association. The CFD regularly hosts these events to ensure homes have functioning alarms, which protect both lives and property.
“Fire prevention and fire safety are at the core of our mission at the CFD,” said Fire Marshal William Matlock. “A community smoke alarm drive is one of the most effective ways we can protect our neighbors. By ensuring every home has a working alarm, we’re giving families the early warning they need to escape safely when seconds truly matter.”
The event coincides with the National MLK Day of Service, and the CFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau, Community Outreach team, Public Educators, and command staff will participate.
