Chattanooga firefighters rescue kitten from small fire in homeless encampment

Chattanooga, TN – Firefighter Elliott Brown from Engine 21 Blue Shift helped rescue a kitten that suffered minor burns during a fire at a homeless encampment near Gunbarrel Road and Commons Boulevard on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Chattanooga firefighters responded around 2:30 p.m. after noticing smoke in the area.
Crews extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes. Engine 6, Ladder 7, Squad 7, and Engine 21 were on the scene.
The McKamey Animal Center also responded to provide care for the injured kitten.
