Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in East Brainerd on Thursday afternoon after smoke and flames were reported coming from a home in the 900 block of Lindsay Avenue. According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, Red Shift companies were dispatched at 2:44 PM on 4/9/26 following reports of a house fire with possible occupants inside.

Before firefighters arrived on scene, a passing Good Samaritan noticed smoke coming from the residence and stopped to help. The individual assisted a disabled resident out of the burning home and then called 911 to report the emergency. Fire officials credited the quick actions of the Good Samaritan with ensuring that at least one occupant was safely removed prior to the arrival of emergency crews.

When Chattanooga Fire Department units arrived, they found heavy fire conditions originating in the garage of the home. Firefighters quickly confirmed that flames were actively extending from the garage area and beginning to spread into the structure. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack, entering the home to control the fire while also rotating personnel in and out due to the intensity of the heat and smoke conditions.

Firefighters reported that the garage contained two vehicles that were fully involved in fire. The presence of the vehicles significantly increased the fire load and contributed to rapidly elevated temperatures inside the structure. As crews worked to suppress the flames, the fire extended upward into the attic space, requiring coordinated efforts to prevent further structural damage and stop additional spread.

Despite the challenging conditions, firefighters were able to gain control of the fire and bring it under control by approximately 3:18 PM, less than 35 minutes after arrival. Crews remained on scene afterward to ensure that no hidden hotspots remained and to secure the structure.

Officials confirmed that the fire was initially reported with possible entrapment, which heightened urgency during the response. However, due to the actions of the Good Samaritan and the rapid work of firefighters, all occupants were accounted for and no injuries were reported. Emergency personnel later confirmed that the scene was stabilized without any civilian or firefighter injuries.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist two displaced adults following the fire. Both residents were left without access to their home due to damage caused primarily in the garage area and portions of the attic. Assistance is being provided to help them with immediate housing and recovery needs.

The Chattanooga Fire Department deployed multiple units to the scene, including Squad 13, Squad 7, Squad 1, Engine 21, Ladder 21, Engine 6, Ladder 6, Battalion 2 and Battalion 3. Fire officials noted that the coordinated response from multiple companies helped bring the fire under control quickly and prevent further destruction to nearby structures.

Authorities stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators are expected to examine the point of origin in the garage, including the vehicles that were inside at the time of the incident, to determine what sparked the blaze. No further details have been released at this time as the investigation continues.
