Chattanooga firefighters responded to hazardous material spill at automotive paint facility on Southern Street

Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga firefighters responded to a hazardous materials incident at an automotive paint facility on Southern Street Thursday morning.
The Chattanooga Fire Department said Blue Shift companies were dispatched at 8:43 a.m. on August 14 to 1801 Southern Street for a small spill involving nitric acid.
The building was evacuated as a precaution while hazmat and special operations crews addressed the situation.
According to officials, the spill caused a minor chemical reaction, but the incident was mitigated without any injuries.
Responding units included Hazmat 1, Battalion 1, Special Operations, Squad 1, Engine 1, Ladder 1, and Ladder 5.
