Chattanooga, TN – The City of Chattanooga will honor the legacy of longtime community advocate Jessie Igou with a special ceremony to rename the Eastdale Community Center in her memory.

The event, open to both the media and the public, will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 11 AM ET at the community center located at 1312 Moss Street.

The facility will officially be renamed the Jessie Igou Community Center in recognition of Mrs. Igou’s decades of service and dedication to the Eastdale neighborhood.

Jessie Igou, a Chattanooga native, was deeply involved in the Eastdale Neighborhood Association and played a vital role in numerous community projects and initiatives. Her commitment to uplifting and supporting her neighbors left a lasting impact that continues to be felt today.

Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly, members of the Department of Community Development, city leaders, and members of the Igou family will speak at the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served following the event.

The renaming serves as a tribute to a woman whose tireless advocacy helped shape the Eastdale community for the better.
