Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga Fire Department Green Shift companies responded quickly to a fire at a homeless encampment Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2025. At 3:28 PM, Hamilton County 911 received multiple calls from drivers on Highway 27 who reported seeing smoke and flames in the area of Cherokee Boulevard and West Manning Street.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and discovered the fire had spread from the encampment to the surrounding woods. The brush fire was rapidly moving toward nearby buildings. To combat the fire, an aerial unit was deployed to knock down the flames, and handlines were used to fully extinguish the blaze.

The fire was brought under control within minutes. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, and no damage or fire extension occurred to nearby businesses. No individuals were found at the scene of the fire.

The following units responded to the incident: Squad 1, Ladder 1, Engine 1, Engine 4, Engine 17, Engine 10, Engine 12, Battalion 1, and Battalion 3. Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) and Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services (HCEMS) also assisted with the response.
