Tennessee – Drivers on I-40 in Putnam County should prepare for temporary lane closures tomorrow, January 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time, as Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) maintenance crews conduct mobile pothole patching operations.

The right lanes in both directions from mile marker 290 to mile marker 304 will be closed, which may cause significant delays, especially on Monterey Mountain. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution and follow posted signage directing them through the work zone.

The work is weather-dependent, and if conditions change, the project will be rescheduled. Uniformed police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.

Motorists are reminded to use all available information tools, including the TDOT SmartWay Map, and to check travel conditions before heading out. Drivers are also urged to avoid distractions, such as texting or using cell phones, while driving.

Additionally, Tennessee’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles, is in effect. Violators could face fines and possible jail time.
