New York – A New York man was ordered to spend more than two decades behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including second-degree murder in connection with the death of his former partner. The 38-year-old defendant, T. TayIor, was sentenced last week as a part of a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators say that the defendant had already been under suspicion for the murder of his girIfriend, Teresa, who was found stabbed to death in her New York home two years ago. With authorities actively searching for him in the state, the defendant fled New York. Approximately two weeks later, he traveled—via North Carolina—back to New York with a clear and stated intention.

The defendant arrived back to New York and checked into a local hotel before entering the victim’s home during the early hours of May  28, 2023. He stabbed the victim more than two dozen times in front of her three children, two of whom were also his. During the attack, the victim defended her children and was killed. The defendant then fled through a bedroom window, discarded his bIoody clothing on the way, and escaped via a taxi to a bus station.

Law enforcement agents, including homicide detectives and U.S. Marshals, located the defendant in a Pennsylvania bar on two week later. He was arrested, extradited, and returned to New York to face charges for both killings.

During questioning by detectives, the defendant admitted his motive, stating he killed his former spouse because he harbored so much animosity toward her and believed she deserved it, unlike his current girIfriend, who was pregnant, whom he had killed earlier and later said he regretted.

Prosecutors also noted that at the time of the killing, he had three pending domestic violence charges related to his former spouse. The couple had been married for over ten years, and authorities say domestic abuse was a recurrent factor.

Officials praised the victim for her courage during the attack. District Attorney Robbert stated that she protected her children despite being stabbed repeatedly, and that the family played a key role in the investigation and prosecution.

The defendant’s sentencing hearing in the County Court has been scheduled for September  16, 2025. He still faces a separate murder indictment for the May 2023 death of his current spouse.

In addition to the murder charges, the defendant is expected to face other felony counts, including burglary and evidence tampering related to his actions immediately after the killing.

New York authorities have described this as one of the most chilling cases they have encountered, noting the stark contrast between the defendant’s stated remorse after the first killing and his calculated decision to kill again before being apprehended.
