Man arrested by Metro police in connection with Sept. 26 shooting incident faces murder, attempted murder charges

Nashville, TN – According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, his name is Mohamed Sowa and he now faces charges for murder and attempted murder for his role in the death of Ja’Niya Birdsong and the wounding of his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend.
Metro Police said this incident occurred on Sept. 26.
It happened in the 3800 block of Eckhart Drive.
The 21-year-old suspect and his ex-girlfriend were arguing outside the home.
The suspect then got into his vehicle and fired shots toward the two teens.
Police said Birdsong was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 21-year-old suspect is being held on $500,000 bond.
This incident remains under investigation.
