Nightly ramp closures on I-40 and I-275 North in Knox County begin June 15 for bridge work preparation
Tennessee – Motorists traveling through the Knoxville area should prepare for nightly ramp closures on Interstate 40 and I-275 North as crews begin preparatory work for a major bridge replacement project scheduled for July.
Starting Sunday evening, June 15, and continuing through Friday, June 20, several ramps to I-275 North will be intermittently closed between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The closures will allow construction crews to safely remove asbestos and begin demolition of the center median barrier wall and bridge deck over Elm Street and Bernard Avenue.
The affected ramps include:
-
I-40 East to I-275 North (Exit 387A)
-
Henley Street to I-275 North
-
I-40 West to I-275 North (Exit 387A)
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) warns drivers to expect delays and urges them to use caution as crews and equipment will be active in the area. The schedule remains weather-dependent and may be adjusted in the event of inclement conditions.
TDOT recommends drivers consult the SmartWay map or call 511 for real-time traffic updates and route planning. Officials also stress the importance of distraction-free driving and remind the public that Tennessee’s Move Over Law is strictly enforced in all construction zones.
