Parents chose themselves and their animals over their children’s well-being after leaving the children clinically maInourished, uneducated and with health problems, while feeding their animals with salmon; sentenced

Philadelphia, PA – According to the court documents, the 38-year-old mom, later identified as CrystaI, and the 48-year-old dad, later identified as Shanne, were sentenced to 8 to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of child endangerment. Both parents were also ordered not to contact their kids until they turn 18 and only with approval of a court-appointed therapist. 

The investigation process began in April last year after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that two little children were walking inside an abandoned trailer and taking items. The responding officers discovered that 7 children were living in very bad conditions. The children reportedly told authorities they entered the trailer to get a blanket to keep their rats warm, as their parents had no money. The trailer was filled with animal f-ces, animal cages and animals. All 7 children, 1 boy and 6 girls, were rushed to the hospital where hospital staff discovered that only one of them wasn’t malnourished. The children also had low kidney function, fevers, poor eyesight and poor dental health. 

During the investigation process, authorities also discovered that none of the 7 children had any education. None of the children knew how to write or read. The children were alone when the officers found them, only for the parents to arrive one hour later. The responding officers then entered the home and discovered that the parents had locks on the refrigerator. The home was filled with animals, animal cages and animal f-ces. The home didn’t had a washing machine and none of the children had even a toothbrush and toothpaste. The home didn’t even had a soap in the bathroom. 

During the investigation process, authorities also discovered that the parents took better care of their animals, instead of their children. One week after being removed, still, one child was found to have maggots in her hair. She and another child would have to have their heads shaved due to the amount of matting. They reportedly recorded themselves feeding their animal salmon and brushing the lizard’s teeth. Prosecutors released a statement, saying that the mom and dad ‘chose themselves and their animals over their children’s well-being, and the psychological effects of this will last a lifetime.
