Search underway for man who ran into floodwaters on East Brainerd Road
Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga Fire and Chattanooga Police are continuing the search for a man who ran into floodwaters on East Brainerd Road during Tuesday night’s severe weather.
On Aug. 12, 2025, the 7600 block of East Brainerd Road was blocked due to flooding, with yellow tape in place and firefighters working to keep people from bypassing barricades. According to officials, the man took off running and accidentally entered a flooded creek.
Firefighters immediately alerted incident commanders and 911, launching a search when the man did not resurface. The initial search was called off after several hours and resumed Wednesday morning.
Rising water levels and heavy debris in and around the creek have limited search capabilities.
CPD’s drone is being used to aid in the search, alongside the Chattanooga Fire Department’s Special Operations Division and other fire officials.
