TDOT to widen I-75 and I-24 interchange ramps with lane closures starting August 3
Tennessee – Drivers near the I-75 and I-24 interchange in Hamilton County should prepare for upcoming construction that will affect traffic flow.
As part of Phase 2 of the project to widen and improve the interchange, Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) crews will begin shifting traffic to the final alignment on the interstate ramps over two weekends starting August 3, 2025.
The ramps from I-75 South to I-24 West and I-75 North to I-24 West will be widened from two lanes to three lanes. Work will take place nightly between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., during which traffic will be reduced to one lane on each ramp and on I-24 West to allow for construction.
While the ramps will expand to three lanes, I-24 West itself will maintain its current three-lane configuration from the Moore Road exit through the project limits.
One through lane will end near the Spring Creek Road bridge, with two lanes becoming dedicated exit lanes to Moore Road. The full lane configuration on I-24 West is expected to open by the end of August.
TDOT advises drivers to seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible during construction times, as delays are expected. Motorists should obey all signage, stay alert for changes, and check traffic updates through the TDOT SmartWay Map or by calling 511.
Drivers are reminded to follow Tennessee’s Move Over Law, passed in 2006, which carries penalties of up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500 for violations. Additionally, drivers are urged to avoid distractions like texting or phone calls while driving to ensure safety.
