Tennessee Military Department opens new logistics warehouse in Smyrna to support Army National Guard units statewide
Tennessee – The Tennessee Military Department held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Tennessee Army National Guard’s new United States Property and Fiscal Office warehouse at Smyrna’s Volunteer Training Site.
The 91,000-square-foot facility includes more than 80,000 square feet of modern, energy-efficient storage for equipment and clothing, along with 11,300 square feet of administrative space for offices and personnel. A 33,000-square-foot motor vehicle storage area for wheeled and armored vehicles is located next to Smyrna’s combined maintenance facility, improving accessibility for military operations.
“This warehouse greatly improves our readiness and centrally locates this key logistics hub for all our Army units,” said Maj. Gen. Warner Ross, Tennessee’s Adjutant General. “It’s a much-needed improvement and helps streamline our logistics support to our Soldiers.”
The new facility replaces a 50-year-old warehouse in Nashville that had served as the state’s central logistics hub since 1973. The warehouse’s mission, along with its 32 full-time employees and nearly 10 traditional Guardsmen, is moving to Smyrna to train and support Soldiers across Tennessee. The older building at Tennessee’s Joint Force Headquarters will be repurposed.
Maj. Bret Morrison, Tennessee’s Supply and Services Division Chief, said the relocation will make operations more efficient. “Being more accessible to our units, it makes getting gear and equipment to them quicker and easier,” he stated.
The Tennessee State Building Commission approved the project in July 2022. It was designed by Barge Cauthen and Orcutt Winslow Architects, both based in Nashville, and constructed by Nearen Construction from Cullman, Alabama.
