Chattanooga, TN – According to the TDOT officials, the $29.4 million project, spanning from Cades-Atwood Road to State Route 77 (US 70-A), upgrades a two-lane road into a divided four-lane highway.
Stretching nearly 5 miles, the project was originally set for completion in May 2025 but will now open ahead of schedule.
This improvement will boost traffic flow, enhance safety, and contribute to regional economic development.
On November 11, traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed lanes. TDOT urges drivers to remain cautious as they adapt to new traffic patterns.
While the new four-lane section opens, final project work will continue, including intermittent lane closures in the upcoming weeks.
Key project features include:
- Widening SR 76 (US 79) from two lanes to a divided four-lane highway
- A new three-way stop at the SR 76 and SR 77 (US 70-A) intersection
- Ongoing work to finalize signage, striping, and minor traffic control adjustments
