Florida – A Florida woman was taken into custody last week and charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadIy weapon. Florida authorities allege that the defendant, 26-year-old A. WiIIiams, attacked another woman by breaking a bottIe over her head before stabbing her with a large bIade. The incident reportedly stemmed from the defendant being extremely upset over how the victim, who was not identified, had arranged her sIeeping area in her room.
The investigation began when Florida authoroities responded to a call about a violent altercation at a residence in Florida. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with serious injuries. The defendant was taken into custody at the scene. According to reports, she told responding officers that she was upset over the arrangement of her sIeeping area, which led to the vioIent attack.
The responding officers made contact with the victim, who reportedly told them that when she victim walked out of the defendant’s bedroom, the defendant grabbed the her hair and struck her on the front and back of her head with her hand. The defendant then grabbed an empty olive oil glass bottle from inside her bedroom and hit the victim in the head, causing the bottle to break.
The defendant continued pulling the victim’s hair, with some braids being pulled out completely. While holding and struggling with the victim, the defendant kicked and bit her leg. The victim bit one of the defendant’s fingers to make her stop hitting her. The victim managed to break free and began calling 911. At that point, the defendant allegedly went into the kitchen and grabbed a large knife. Surveillance footage from inside the home shows the defendant lunging at the victim and stabbing her in the back/side area, according to the affidavit.
Police found the defendant in the bathroom holding the knife and took her into custody. During an interview with detectives, the defendant admitted to hitting the victim in the head with a bottle, then grabbing her by the neck and hair, and biting her on the leg.
She also said she struck the victim with the knife as the victim was turning away and on the phone with the police. The defendant described her actions as occurring during a moment of intense emotion. Authorities reported that the victim had visible injuries, including a swollen left eye and a small laceration on her back/side area.
In Florida, attempted second-degree murder is classified as a second-degree felony. To secure a conviction, prosecutors must prove that the defendant intentionally committed an act that would have resulted in the victim’s death, except that someone prevented it or the defendant failed to complete the act. The act must have been imminently dangerous to another person and demonstrate a depraved mind without regard for human life.
