55-year-old man dies after being hit by vehicle while biking at Oakhill Road and Sterchi Drive intersection
Chattanooga, TN – A 55-year-old man died Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Chattanooga, police said.
According to the Chattanooga Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Oakhill Road and Sterchi Drive at approximately 7:17 a.m. on May 9, 2025, following reports of a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located the male bicyclist suffering from life-threatening injuries.
CPR was administered at the scene by responding officers until Hamilton County EMS arrived and took over emergency medical care.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation by the CPD Traffic Unit revealed that the crash occurred when a Nissan, traveling southbound on Oakhill Road, approached the intersection at Sterchi Drive.
At the same time, the bicyclist was heading east on Sterchi Drive and entered the path of the vehicle. The Nissan then struck the cyclist, resulting in the fatal injuries.
The driver of the Nissan and a passenger were also taken to a local hospital for treatment of what authorities described as suspected minor injuries.
