TDOT launches $17.8 million project to relocate SR 76 in Bells, impacting multiple roads and supporting industrial growth
Tennessee – The Tennessee Department of Transportation has launched a major project to relocate SR 76 (US 79) in Bells, Tennessee, with multiple road closures scheduled to begin Thursday, August 14, 2025.
Affected roads include SR 88 (Central Avenue) from High Street to Christian Avenue Extension, SR 88 west of the CSX Railroad, Weddle Street south of Mitchell Avenue, and Hicks Street from High Street to just south of the existing SR 88. A posted detour will be in place for SR 88.
The $17.8 million State Industrial Access project is designed to support industrial growth in the region, specifically benefiting Pictsweet, a major employer in Bells. The work includes grading, drainage improvements, construction of a concrete I-beam bridge, and paving on US 79 to enhance industrial access.
Hal Coffey Contracting, LLC is serving as the prime contractor, with an estimated completion date of August 31, 2027.
