Chattanooga, TN – With Hamilton County Schools back in session on Thursday, the Chattanooga Police Department is reminding motorists that school zone speed limits will once again be in effect across the city.

Officers will be conducting traffic enforcement in designated school zones to help ensure students arrive and leave safely during the first days of the new school year.

Drivers are asked to slow down and remain alert during active school zone hours, which generally run from 7:00 to 8:45 a.m. and 2:15 to 4:00 p.m., depending on each school’s schedule.

Police are also urging motorists to be mindful of School Patrol Officers who assist with morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals. Officers said patience behind the wheel is especially important as children travel to and from school.

The department is encouraging residents to join them in starting the school year safely by obeying posted signs, staying attentive in school zones, and allowing extra time for travel during peak times.
