Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Fire Department addressed public concerns regarding a notice sign near the Fireman’s Fountain, clarifying that the City of Chattanooga is donating the property where the fountain sits to Hamilton County.
While this marks an official transfer, the county has already been maintaining the fountain.
The fountain requires significant repairs and will be temporarily removed for refurbishment before being reinstalled. Hamilton County is funding the $175,000 restoration.
Located in Fountain Square on Georgia Avenue, the memorial fountain honors William Peak and Henry Iler, who lost their lives in the Bee Hive Store fire of 1886.
