Chattanooga, TN – The City of Chattanooga has announced several construction-related road closures that will impact traffic in various areas beginning March 11, 2025. The closures will affect Howell Road, Hixson Pike, Wilcox Boulevard, and the Wilcox Boulevard Tunnel, with work taking place throughout the week. Motorists are advised to plan for potential delays and follow detour routes.

The first closure affects Howell Road between its south and north connections to Mayfair Avenue. This section will be closed from Tuesday, March 11th, to Monday, March 17th, for sewer repairs. Detour signs will be posted to guide drivers around the area during this period.

An emergency gas main repair will take place on Hixson Pike near the intersection with Ashland Terrace on March 11th and 12th, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. For safety reasons, the left and center lanes northbound through the intersection will be closed, with all traffic directed into the right lane. Additionally, the left lane on Ashland Terrace eastbound at the intersection with Hixson Pike will also be closed. Drivers are urged to use caution and follow posted detours during this emergency work.

The Wilcox Boulevard Bridge, located over Norfolk Southern and CSX trackage, will undergo repairs on its expansion joints. Starting Wednesday, March 12th, through Thursday, March 13th, work crews will close one side of the bridge for repairs. Traffic will be shifted to the opposite side, with two-way traffic maintained, though lanes will be reduced to one in each direction. This closure will take place from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM on both days.

Finally, the Wilcox Boulevard Tunnel will be closed for cleaning and inspection on Thursday, March 13th, and Friday, March 14th, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM each day. The tunnel will remain open on Saturday, March 15th, but will close again on Sunday, March 16th, from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Detour routes will be posted to guide drivers around the tunnel closures.

Motorists should plan for additional travel time while navigating these construction zones. The City of Chattanooga encourages residents to stay informed about the progress of the work and follow posted detours for a safer commute.
