Chattanooga, TN – A two-alarm fire destroyed a large home in Hixson Wednesday afternoon, with lightning identified as the cause, the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) reported.

At 4:19 p.m. on August 20, 2025, Red Shift companies were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 1600 block of Kamin Road off Middle Valley Road. Fire was reported in the attic, with smoke visible upon arrival.

Firefighters initially attempted an interior attack, but sagging sections of the roof forced crews to change tactics. A second alarm brought additional personnel to assist.

CFD launched defensive operations using aerial master streams and hoselines, working for several hours to extinguish the blaze.

All occupants were safe and accounted for, and no injuries were reported.

CFD thanked mutual aid partners for covering fire stations during the incident and acknowledged the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue Service for providing their rehab unit on scene.
