Local leaders kick off Coats for Kids drive to support families in need
Chattanooga, TN – Chief John Chambers, Sheriff Austin Garrett, and members of the Forgotten Child Fund gathered to launch this year’s Coats for Kids Drive. The initiative aims to provide warm clothing and Christmas gifts to local children in need, continuing a cherished annual tradition.
The community is invited to contribute to the cause by donating new or gently used coats on Tuesday, December 5, at Hamilton Place Mall.
Donations will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with members of local fire, police, and EMS agencies present to collect items. All coats and funds raised will remain local to benefit families within the community.
The Forgotten Child Fund, which has strong ties to the Chattanooga Police Department, was established in 1962 by Officer Johnny Wright. Wright founded the organization after encountering two children on Christmas Day with only an apple and an orange to their name.
His dedication to ensuring no child would be overlooked during the holidays inspired the fund’s creation, which has since provided vital support to countless families.
The community’s continued involvement helps sustain this heartfelt mission. A special thanks goes to the Forgotten Child Fund for its ongoing work in uniting the community and bringing holiday cheer to those in need.
