Minnesota – A Minnesota man was taken into custody last week and charged with second-degree murder following the fataI shooting of his parent, MeaDean, in their Minnesota home. According to Minnesota authorities, the investigation process began after the family’s neighbor reported that the defendant, 46-year-old N. Devin, had knocked on their door, stating that someone had died.

When Minnesota authorities arrived at the scene, they found the defendant on the front porch with blood on his hands. He claimed he had discovered his parent deceased and had attempted to control his animaIs. Upon entering the home, officers found the 74-year-old victim deceased in a recliner with a gunshot wound to her face. A spent shell casing and a bullet were located nearby, and several firearms were found inside the residence, including a pistoI with apparent bIood on it.

Further investigation revealed that the victim had been asleep in her recIiner when she was shot at close range. In addition to the firearms, officers discovered a box of ammunition matching the rounds found in the pistol, as well as a live round and a spent casing on the floor near the victim. Inside the home, investigators also found satanic symbols and phrases spray-painted on the walls, which may provide insight into the suspect’s state of mind at the time of the incident.

During his detention, the defendant was recorded making spontaneous statements, including him saying that he killed his parent which were captured on audio while he was alone in an interview room at the public safety building. “I killed my mother,” he was overheard saying while sitting alone in an interview room, police said. These statements were pivotal in charging him with second-degree murder with intent, though not premeditated. An investigation revealed he shot his mom while she was sleeping in the recliner, causing a devastating gunshot wound, according to court filings.

The defendant’s criminal history includes a charge for fifth-degree domestic assault, which was later dismissed, and a conviction for interference with a 911 call. He also has several impaired driving offenses on his record. At the time of the incident, the defendant was reportedly intoxicated and displayed erratic behavior, which may have contributed to the tragic event. However, a clear motive for the shooting has not been established, and the investigation is ongoing.

The defendant remains in custody at the county jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 15, 2025. If convicted, he faces up to forty years in prison. The case has drawn attention due to its domestic nature and the involvement of mental health factors, highlighting the complexities surrounding such incidents.
