Atlanta, GA – The young Georgia parent is now charged with murder and aggravated assault with a weapon after authorities discovered that the woman reportedly killed her newborn baby right after delivering the child at her family home. Authorities say the 17-year-old, Letticia, who was previously charged with concealing a death, throwing away or abandonment of a dead body, and abuse of a dead body, was taken into custody after her family member realized that the mother was diging a hole in her backyard.
During the investigation process, the reportedly confessed to cutting the newborn’s throat with a knife while she was attempting to remove the umbiIical cord. During an interview with investigators, the woman also admitted to using a knife to ‘remove the newborn’s heart’. The investigation process began last week after the 911 caller told the dispatcher that someone is diging a hole in their yard.
Authorities in Georgia also discovered that the mother was diging a hole, claiming that her baby was never actually buried. First responders realized that the victim’s body was mutiIated and had visible injuries. During the investigation process, authorities discovered that the young parent gave birth to the child earlier that day. The parent told investigators that she was by herself and no adult helped her int he process. The mother was rushed to the hospital because she needed medical assistance due to the childbirth.
The mother also told investigators that after delivering the child, she reportedly wrapped her son and put him in a bag. Several hours later, the woman started diging a hole in the backyard, where she planned to bury the newborn, only to be seen by her family member, who then called the authorities. According to the police officials, an autopsy will reportedly determine the child’s cause of death.
The young parent, who is being held without bond, reportedly admitted to using a sharp knife to remove the umbilical cord from her baby’s neck after birth, causing a large cut on the infant. The mother then used knife to ‘remove a baby’s organ’, police officials said. The newborn was clearly injured, authorities stated. The mother then wrapped the baby boy in a blanket and placed him in a grocery bag, hiding his death for over nearly six hours after she gave birth in her bed. Investigators found the mother digging a hole in the backyard but she had not yet buried the newborn at the time they found her. A relative caught her digging the hole and called the police.
