Tennessee – Motorists traveling on I-40 and I-275 North in Knox County should prepare for upcoming construction-related traffic impacts as crews work on replacing the bridge over Elm Street/Bernard Avenue.

Starting Thursday evening, July 17, several ramps leading to I-275 North will be intermittently closed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. through Friday, July 18. The affected ramps include:

  • I-40 East to I-275 North (Exit 387A)

  • Henley Street to I-275 North

  • I-40 West to I-275 North (Exit 387A)

These short closures will allow crews to make necessary preparations for the bridge replacement project.

Following the ramp closures, I-275 will undergo a full weekend shutdown in both directions beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 18, and lasting until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 21. This marks the second consecutive weekend closure of I-275 in this area, with a third planned for the fall.

Drivers should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling near the construction zone as workers will be present. The schedule is subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Motorists are reminded to “Know Before You Go” by checking travel conditions before heading out and to avoid distractions such as texting or talking on the phone while driving.
