Roadwork on I-40 to impact traffic on Dec. 14 as crews conduct rolling roadblocks between mile markers 318 and 329
Chattanooga, TN – Drivers traveling on I-40 in Cumberland County were advised of upcoming roadway activities expected to affect traffic.
On Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., utility contract crews planned to conduct rolling roadblocks in both directions between mile markers 318 and 329.
Motorists were encouraged to use caution in the area and prepare for delays.
The work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions or unforeseen circumstances require it. Uniformed police officers will be on site to assist with traffic control.
Officials reminded drivers to check travel conditions before leaving, make use of TDOT’s SmartWay Map and 511 service, and avoid tweeting, texting, or talking on a phone while driving.
They also noted that Tennessee’s Move Over Law, enacted in 2006, carries penalties of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500 for violations.
