Chattanooga, TN – According to the state officials, THP’s strategies encompass saturation patrols, seatbelt, and sobriety checkpoints, alongside heightened visibility along high-crash corridors throughout the summer, all aimed at curbing serious injuries and fatal crashes.

The 2024 Memorial Day holiday period is slated to conclude at 5:59 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

Reflecting on the previous Memorial Day weekend in 2023, statistics reveal a sobering reality: there were 12 fatal crashes, comprising five single-vehicle incidents and seven multiple-vehicle collisions, resulting in the loss of 13 lives.

Of these fatalities, six were occupants who were not wearing safety restraints, while nine deaths stemmed from alcohol-related crashes.

Additionally, three motorcycle riders lost their lives, with one rider not wearing a helmet. Furthermore, one ATV rider and two pedestrians succumbed to fatal accidents during this period.

Tragically, a fatality occurred approximately every 6 hours and 27 minutes throughout the 2023 Memorial Day holiday period.
