Visitors to Pickett State Forest in Pickett and Fentress Counties will only have access to the northwestern sections of the forest on foot or horseback starting June 3, 2024
Chattanooga, TN – This restriction, imposed by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division, will be in place for 120 days to address the significant damage caused by off-road vehicles to roads and forest trails.
The decision to implement temporary restrictions comes as a response to the urgent need for repair work, which is essential to safeguarding the forest and ensuring the safety of visitors.
To facilitate these repairs, a gate has been installed at the junction of Redmond Rim Road and Redmond Mountain Road, effectively prohibiting motorized traffic beyond that point.
This measure not only protects workers engaged in repair activities but also prevents further deterioration of the forest infrastructure, thereby enabling efficient completion of road and trail restoration efforts.
