49-year-old man arrested on murder, firearm charges in connection to deadly Fagan Street shooting
Chattanooga, TN – On July 29, 2025, the Chattanooga Police Department’s Fugitive Unit, with assistance from the Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested 49-year-old LaJeffery Sparks in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on Fagan Street in 2024.
Sparks is charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Following his arrest, he was removed from the TBI’s Most Wanted list and booked into the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
The charges stem from a shooting on October 5, 2024. Officers responded just after midnight to a call about a person shot in the 4100 block of Fagan Street. They found a 42-year-old man with life-threatening injuries and began life-saving measures until medical crews arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Investigators believe the man was shot while outside a residence. The suspect fled before police arrived. CPD’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate and process the scene.
The Chattanooga Police Department expressed appreciation to the partner agencies that assisted in bringing Sparks safely into custody.
