Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department arrested 64-year-old Guster Harfield within hours of a fatal shooting on August 8, 2025, in the 7700 block of Lee Highway.

At 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person shot in a motel parking lot. Upon arrival, they found a 43-year-old man deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

The department’s Homicide Unit launched an investigation while the Crime Scene Unit processed the scene. Investigators from the Real Time Intelligence Center provided images of a suspect vehicle, which helped officers quickly identify and locate it.

Around 10:30 p.m., Neighborhood Policing officers spotted a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. The shooting suspect was not inside, though officers were able to connect the vehicle to Harfield. They later found him at a residence and brought him in for questioning.

During interviews with detectives, the man admitted to the shooting. He was arrested and booked into the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center on a charge of first-degree murder.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact 423-698-2525. Harfield is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
