Mother claims her child, who was into drugs and would not go to school, made no threats while holding her handgun, only for her to lunge forward, grab the weapon, and then kill him while claiming she just wanted to scare the boy
Wichita, KS – According to the police officials, the 46-year-old woman, later identified as Tasha, was arrested and later charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault and other charges in connection with her child’s death. Police officials said the woman shot and killed her child, 16-year-old Robbert, earlier this month. During an interview with investigators, the woman reportedly confessed to killing the boy after she ‘intended to discharge the handgun with the intent to scare him’.
The fatal incident occurred earlier this month at the woman’s home. The investigation process began after officers responded to a shooting call. The responding officers made contact with the 46-year-old parent, who reportedly told them that she accidentally shot her son. The woman reportedly said that ‘she pointed the weapon at her son, but did not mean to shoot him. The responding officers found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. The boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where he died two days later.
The woman also told investigators that her son was a bad child who was doing drugs and didn’t want to go to school. On the fatal day, the victim told his mom that he decided he did not want to go to school. Hours before the shooting, the boy reportedly told his mother that he will go see a neighbor about getting some weed. Shortly after, he asked his mother if he could use her phone to call one of his brothers. When the woman refused, the boy reportedly became angry and began pulling down the curtains and throwing trash on the floor.
Moments later, the 16-year-old grabbed the woman’s handgun. According to the mother, her son never made any threats with the weapon and never pointed it at her. The woman then grabbed the gun only to later tell authorities that the weapon just ‘went off’. The woman claims she realized her son was shot when the boy fell on the floor. The woman also told investigators that she never intended to shoot her son, but only wanted to discharge the weapon with the intent to scare him. The 46-year-old parent is being held on $1.2 million bond, court records say.
