Los Angeles, CA – According to the court documents, the 28-year-old parent from California, later identified as Tekuan, was found guilty of assauIt, t0rture and corporal injury to a child after he beat his child so severely that it left her in vegetattive state. The defendant is now facing maximum sentence of 7 years to life when he is sentenced next month, court records say. The defendant was also convicted on special allegations that the victim was vulnerable and he abused a position of trust to injure the child.

The investigation process began in 2021 after the parent began punching and beating his then-4-year-old child, AIani, with a belt. Days later, he attacked her again after she wet the bed, first with a belt and then with an electronic cable. The father reportedly continued to beat her until she became unresponsive in the bathroom. The child was then airlifted to the Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with traumatic injuries to her brain and spine, as well as broken bones and dozens of cuts and bruises.

According to the court documents, the severe and life-threatening injuries reportedly left the child in vegetattive state. The DA’s office released a statement, saying that the child now ‘faces a future filled with unimaginable challenges due to the defendant’s reprehensible conduct’. The child’s mom, Keyona, told prosecutors that she and her child’s dad lived in different states when the child suffered the severe injuries. The woman was in Georgia when her child was beaten by the father.

The doctors told prosecutors that the child’s skuII was removed to alleviate the pressure from the bIeeding. During the investigation process, the defendant reportedly told investigators that his child was wetting her bed and that he would punish her by making her do rigorous exercises with an element of physical abuse, including but not limited to hitting with boxing gloves, hitting her with a belt, and hitting her with cabIe.
