Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Police Department’s K-9 Unit took to the water this week for their annual marine operations training, reinforcing their ability to operate effectively in aquatic environments.

The specialized training focuses on familiarizing both K-9s and their handlers with working in and around water — an essential skill for deployments involving rivers, lakes, and other aquatic scenarios.

Exercises included riding in boats, safely entering and exiting watercraft, and adjusting to the unpredictable challenges of water-based operations.

“This training is crucial for ensuring our K-9 teams are fully prepared for any situation,” said a department spokesperson. “Whether it’s search and rescue or tactical operations, being comfortable on the water expands their capabilities.”

The Chattanooga Police Department extended its gratitude to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency for their continued support and collaboration during the training sessions.
