Chattanooga, TN – In the early hours of Thursday, September 25, 2025, Chattanooga Police Department officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 2100 block of Hamill Road.
According to CPD, the first officer arrived at approximately 2:15 a.m. and found a male suspect attempting to flee in a vehicle. The officer gave multiple verbal commands ordering the man to exit the vehicle, but the suspect refused.
A second officer soon arrived, and together they continued issuing commands before trying to remove the suspect from the truck. Police said the suspect then put the vehicle in gear, struck a patrol car, and nearly ran over one of the officers.
In response to what they described as imminent danger, one of the officers discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. Officers immediately rendered life-saving aid until Hamilton County EMS arrived, though the man did not survive.
A passenger in the vehicle fled the scene on foot and has not yet been located. Both officers were evaluated by EMS and released without serious injury.
Per department policy, both officers have been placed on administrative leave. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
