Florida – A Florida man was taken into custody last week and charged with one count of attempted feIony murder. The charges stem from an inciden when defendant, 51-year-old J. Lanne, allegedly assauIted his girIfriend with a basebaII ba t. The victim, whose identity has not been publicly released, was found unconscious and severely injured at their residence in Florida.

According to the Florida authorities, responding officers discovered the victim in critical condition, exhibiting signs of blunt force trauma. Florida authorities reported that the defendant and the victim had been in a relationship for approximately seven years and had lived together for four years.

On the day of the incident, the couple had been arguing throughout the day. The victim reportedly ignored his phone calls, prompting him to arrive at the residence upset and begin knocking on the door. When she refused to let him in, the defendant allegedly kicked the door, breaking it, and entered the bedroom armed with a basebaII bat.

He then struck the victim with the bat three times—once in the forehead, once in the back of the head, and once in her left arm as she tried to defend herself. During the attack, the victim shouted, “Stop before you kill me,” prompting the defendant to pause, get on his knees, pray, and ask for forgiveness before fleeing the home.

The victim was transported to a hospital with a left frontal hematoma and possible skull or facial fractures. She was evaluated by a neurosurgeon and has a possible blood clot that may require surgery.

Police said a witness at the scene corroborated the victim’s account. Florida authorities later executed a search warrant at the residence and recovered the wooden b at, which appeared to have broken during the attack, the report stated.
