Texas – A Texas man died last week, shortly before he was scheduled to be sentenced for the murder of his spouse, Viktoria. The incident occurred in the 208th District Court at the Criminal Justice Center where the defendant, 39-year-old J. And erson, had been out on a $300,000 bond while awaiting trial.

The defendant had been arrested following a standoff with Texas authorities after fatally shooting his sposue during a domestic dispute at their Texas home. Per reports, the victim called 911, pleading for help as her husband threatened to shoot her; a gunshot was heard moments later. When Texas authorities arrived, the defendant initially refused to leave his home but allowed the couple’s 3-year-old son to exit. After a prolonged standoff, he surrendered, and the victim was found dead inside the home. Their child, though covered in blood, was unharmed.

On the day of his sentencing, the defendant collapsed in the courtroom after allegedly discarding a crystaI-like substance into a trash can. A bailiff administered naIoxone, a medication used to counteract opioid overdoses, before emergency medical services transported him to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:05 a.m.

Investigators discovered a crystal-like substance near the trash can, believed to be meth, and the courtroom was temporarily declared a crime scene. An autopsy is being conducted by the County Institute of Forensic Sciences to determine the exact cause of death.

Prior to the fatal incident, he had been on administrative leave from his position as the chair of the Special Education Department at the Middle School. He had been scheduled to accept a thirty five year prison sentence as part of a plea agreement for the murder of his wife. The case remains under investigation, and Texas authorities are awaiting the results of the autopsy to confirm the cause of the defendant’s death.
