Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire early on March 21, 2026, that displaced a local family after an unattended kitchen fire spread inside a home.

Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 1:07 a.m. to the 2300 block of Wheeler Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke coming from the residence and encountered significant fire conditions in the kitchen area. Crews initiated an interior attack despite zero visibility, working to contain the blaze.

Officials reported that the fire was caused by unattended cooking and was largely confined to the kitchen due to the aggressive response by firefighters. There were no injuries reported.

One adult, two teenagers, and a dog were displaced as a result of the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Multiple units responded to the scene, including Engine 4, Engine 15, Engine 10, Squad 13, Ladder 5, and Battalion 3.
