Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga Fire Department crews responded to an overnight residential fire in St. Elmo where firefighters attempted to save a family’s pet, but the dog did not survive.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 1:06 a.m. on Aug. 3 to the 4600 block of Florida Avenue after receiving reports of a residential fire.
Engine 14 arrived and found heavy flames coming from the front porch and the front bedroom of the home. Crews immediately began fire attack operations while also conducting searches of the residence.
During the search, firefighters located an unresponsive dog inside the home. Chattanooga Fire Department personnel performed CPR on the scene in an effort to revive the pet, but the dog was unsuccessful.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames in the front porch and front bedroom areas before extinguishing remaining hot spots throughout the residence.
No additional details about the occupants or whether anyone was injured were released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Chattanooga Fire Department.
