CFD firefighters honored with life saving medals for rescuing burn victim in apartment fire
Chattanooga, TN – According to the statement, firefighter Bruseo and Firefighter Coffee, both from Station 1 Blue Shift, received Life Saving Medals for their heroic actions on July 12, 2024.
The firefighters responded to an automatic alarm at 500 W Martin Luther Blvd (Jaycee Towers) at 11 PM, where they found smoke billowing from a resident’s apartment.
Inside, they discovered a woman who had been burned from smoking in bed while on oxygen. She was on the floor, and flames were engulfing her bed.
Bruseo and Coffee promptly rescued the woman and extinguished the fire. The victim sustained burns on her stomach and leg and was transported to the hospital by Hamilton County EMS.
The firefighters’ swift response and decisive actions mitigated a potentially life-threatening situation, directly resulting in saving the woman’s life.
The Chattanooga Fire Department and the city extend their gratitude for Bruseo and Coffee’s dedication and service.
