Tennessee – Motorists traveling on I-81 North in Jefferson County should plan for potential delays as bridge repair activities begin tonight, May 2.

Starting at 7 p.m., the I-81 North will be reduced to one lane at the I-40 East interchange (MM 421). This lane closure will remain in effect around the clock, 24/7, while crews perform essential deck repairs on the bridge.

The scheduled work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. on Monday, May 5, weather permitting. However, drivers should be aware that unforeseen circumstances or adverse weather conditions could affect the timeline.

During this period, motorists should expect delays and are advised to exercise extra caution in the area. With workers present on-site, it is crucial for drivers to remain alert and follow any posted signage.

As always, TDOT urges travelers to take advantage of available motorist information tools and check travel conditions before setting out on their journey.

Drivers are reminded to avoid distractions and focus on the road—texting, tweeting, or using a cell phone while driving can be dangerous.
