Chattanooga Fire Department, alongside other emergency agencies, responded to a tragic incident on the Tennessee River Saturday night
Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga Fire Department officials released a statement saying that at 7:42 PM on May 18, 2024, crews received a distress call to 4063 Amnicola Highway regarding an emergency on the water.
Reports indicated that two adult males had fallen into the river and had not resurfaced.
First responders swiftly converged at the boat ramp located at the Tennessee Riverpark.
Initially, the operation focused on rescue efforts, but tragically, it transitioned into a recovery mission.
Regrettably, one victim was discovered drowned, prompting crews to intensify their search for the other individual.
By 10 PM, the second victim had also been recovered, and all divers were safely out of the water.
Chattanooga firefighters, including the specialized Fireboat 10 unit, collaborated with Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue’s Dive Team, CPD, Hamilton County EMS, and Hamilton County STARS throughout the operation.
