Chattanooga Fire Department firefighter honored for years of community service
Chattanooga, TN – Senior Firefighter Mark Coffman of the Chattanooga Fire Department was recognized during a recent city council meeting for his outstanding dedication to community service.
Coffman, who serves on Ladder 5 Blue Shift, received the Distinguished Citizen Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a national organization that honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional civic commitment.
The award comes in recognition of Coffman’s years of volunteerism and leadership, most notably through his work with *A Soldier’s Journey Home*, a nonprofit that builds mortgage-free, specially adapted homes for veterans with disabilities.
Coffman has been a key figure in the organization, traveling across the country to help construct homes for those who served. His contributions have extended beyond construction, as he also plays a role in organizing efforts and mobilizing volunteers.
In addition to his work with veterans, Coffman is known for coordinating the Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, an annual event held to honor the firefighters who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The event gathers firefighters and community members to symbolically climb 110 stories in tribute to the fallen first responders.
Members of the Chattanooga Fire Department joined in recognizing Coffman’s achievements, noting the lasting impact of his service both locally and nationally. His leadership and commitment to helping others continue to inspire colleagues and citizens alike.
