Chattanooga Fire Department responds to kitchen fire caused by damaged extension cord
Chattanooga, TN – On the morning of April 13, 2025, the Chattanooga Fire Department’s Green Shift crews responded to a reported kitchen fire at a residence located in the 5100 block of Lynnwood Avenue in the St. Elmo neighborhood. The call came in at approximately 11:05 a.m.
Upon arrival, Squad 20 reported light smoke coming from the home. Firefighters conducted a swift interior attack using a handline and were able to extinguish the fire quickly. The flames were found to be coming from a pile of clothes inside the residence.
An investigation into the incident revealed that the fire was caused by a damaged or frayed extension cord. Officials confirmed the fire was accidental in nature.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and the fire was contained before it could spread beyond the immediate area.
The Chattanooga Fire Department continues to remind residents of the importance of checking cords and electrical devices for signs of wear or damage to help prevent accidental fires.
